We’ve seen and heard it all. You cracked your molar eating ice? Been there and fixed that. Broke a front tooth in half playing basketball? Yep! We rebuilt that tooth in a single appointment. Regardless of the story (whether cool or embarrassing), you most likely need same-day treatment. Leaving a cracked and broken tooth exposed to bacteria can lead to infection and tooth loss.
Our general dentist is skilled in fast, painless repairs for your slightly chipped tooth. We can cosmetically improve the appearance of your teeth with dental bonding and fillings. For severely broken teeth, we can get you out of pain and repair your tooth before it can get infected. Severely broken teeth need emergency dental services, so don’t be afraid to walk in or call to request a same-day appointment.
While chips will always pose risks to the long-term health of your teeth, some chips and cracks aren’t dental emergencies. While they shouldn’t wait until your scheduled appointment, they may be safe for a few days. We can get you into the office for chipped tooth repair using dental bonding.
Dental bonding is a method of applying composite resin to the surface of the tooth and shaping it to protect the damaged dentin. The resin is carefully matched to the color of your natural teeth, so it will be completely invisible when you smile. After applying the putty, our dentist will cure it with UV light, then sand it down until it’s perfectly smooth and comfortable.
As long as the crack in your tooth isn’t all the way down to the gums, it can usually be repaired with a regular cavity filling. When treating your broken tooth, we will cleanse the area and treat any signs of decay before applying the material of your choice. Amalgam and gold harden on their own, whereas composite fillings are cured with UV light.
We may continue to shape and smooth the filling with gentle sanding discs to make sure that nothing pokes you or stands out when you bite down.
If the crack in your tooth has severed part of the tooth, or if the crack extends to the gums, you may need additional treatment such as a dental crown or extraction.
Whether your treatment was minor, or you required a crown, our dentist may suggest aftercare procedures to help your tooth heal, reduce sensitivity, and protect against additional damage. For example, custom dental night guards are a great way to alleviate pressure on sensitive teeth after an injury. We may prescribe a night guard after placing your dental crown to expand the life of your tooth and your restoration.
If you’re unsure whether your crack or chip is an emergency, don’t hesitate to call our office. We’d be happy to get you on the schedule as soon as necessary. If you need same-day dental care after a tooth injury, we can help right away. Our goal is to protect, maintain, and improve your dream smile. We hope you’ll give us the chance to do so by booking online or calling 863-508-2565 today.
