Your dream smile is best fostered by a strong dental hygiene routine. Part of that routine? Visiting your general dentist for your twice-annual dental cleaning and exam. We understand that taking time out of your schedule can be a hassle, especially if you dislike the dentist, but we hope to change all of that. With our convenient online booking, it’s easier to fit appointments into your existing schedule. Plus, our practice was created with you in mind, so dread doesn’t keep you from a healthy mouth.
Accessible dental care takes more than just a promise of inclusion. That’s why we are fluent in Spanish and offer services for disabled patients and patients with dental phobia. It should be an easy choice to get to your regular dental cleaning, so we hope you’ll allow us to reframe the way you think about dentistry with kindness, gentleness, and expert care.
To keep your teeth and gums healthy, it takes more than regular brushing and flossing. You should visit us at least twice a year for your check-up and dental cleaning. Every day, plaque bacteria form a film on your teeth that will eventually turn into tartar if it isn’t removed. Tartar is especially harmful to your teeth and gums because it shields these cavity-causing bacteria from being brushed away as easily.
During your dental cleaning, our dental hygienist will remove the tartar around and between your teeth, so your mouth has a fresh start. We will also assess your gums for bleeding and sensitivity and take X-rays to uncover any hidden cavities. If we do detect any decay, we can clean and fill your cavities in the same visit.
These appointments aren’t just to keep healthy teeth healthy. They also help us to foresee and prevent costly and dangerous health conditions such as dental abscesses, periodontitis, and oral cancer.
If you want truly comprehensive preventative care, we also offer services that give your teeth a better shot at defending against cavities between visits. Fluoride treatments and dental sealants are great for kids, teens, and adults.
Fluoride has been an important part of our dental and oral health for almost 100 years. Many US cities have fluoridated their water because it has been shown to reduce cavities in school-aged children and adults by 25 percent, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Per the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), Fluoride works by strengthening the enamel on our teeth. Our enamel is the hard outer surface that protects the dentin from acid, bacteria, and decay. Over time, our enamel gets soft, erodes, or disappears entirely, and regular fluoride treatments can prevent that.
During your treatment, our hygienist will use an electric toothbrush to apply safe amounts of topical fluoride to the surface of your teeth. Then, we wash it away and let the fluoride do its work. Typically, we will advise you to wait for at least 30 minutes to eat or drink, so it has time to sink in.
You may have heard of dental sealants as a way to prevent cavities in children. Per the CDC, children without sealants are 3 times more likely to get cavities in their first molars. While they’re strongly recommended for children who have difficulty brushing effectively, they can be an effective defense against tooth decay for a person of any age.
Dental sealants are made of the same acrylic resin that we use to fill cavities. After using a bonding agent on the tooth, we apply a smooth layer of resin and harden it with UV light. Since most molar cavities happen in the ridges of the tooth, sealing these pits can keep food particles and bacteria away.
If it goes undetected, oral cancer can be life-threatening. That’s why we aim to get a jump start on oral cancer with regular screenings. Your screening will be easy and pain-free. We simply examine your gums for oral cancer symptoms, including red or white patches and sores. You would benefit from regular screenings if you have certain risk factors, including:
We can discuss additional risk factors with you and come up with a treatment plan that can help you reduce your risk. If we detect oral cancer, we will get you the resources and treatment you need to fight it.
